Electronic City is Bangalore’s original IT township — a vast employment belt on Hosur Road (NH-44) split into Phase 1 and Phase 2, anchored by Infosys, Wipro and Biocon. It is the city’s best-value large housing market, with apartments listing around ₹5,000–8,500/sq ft. Crucially it is now on the operational Yellow Line, with its own metro stations running from Hosa Road through to the Bommasandra terminus.
Electronic City is Bangalore’s original IT township (pincode 560100) on Hosur Road, split into Phase 1 and Phase 2 and home to Infosys, Wipro and Biocon. Since August 2025 it has been on the operational Yellow Line, with six stations serving the belt through to Bommasandra. Apartments list around ₹5,000–8,500/sq ft — the best value of any major Bangalore employment hub.
The Electronic City belt runs from Singasandra and Hosa Road in the north, through Phase 1 and Phase 2, out to Hebbagodi, Bommasandra and Chandapura — each with its own price band and character. Detailed guides for all twelve link here.
Electronic City sits in the far south, along Hosur Road toward Hosur and Tamil Nadu. This map traces Namma Metro’s three operational lines — each with a moving train. The Yellow Line runs directly through the belt, giving Electronic City its own operational stations for the first time. Tap Whitefield ▸ to open that guide. Schematic, not to scale.
Electronic City was established in the late 1970s by KEONICS as one of India’s first dedicated electronics and industrial parks, on then-empty land far south of the city. It was the seed from which Bangalore’s IT identity grew.
The 1990s and 2000s turned it into a township: Infosys and Wipro built their flagship campuses here, hundreds of firms followed across Phase 1 and Phase 2, and housing spread along Hosur Road and out toward Hebbagodi, Bommasandra and Chandapura. The elevated expressway eased the long commute into the city, but Electronic City remained defined by that distance.
August 2025 changed the equation. The Yellow Line opened from RV Road to Bommasandra, putting six stations through the belt and finally giving hundreds of thousands of employees a rail link to the rest of Bangalore — the single biggest infrastructure shift in the area’s history.
| Config | Monthly rent | Buy (list) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 BHK | ₹10k–16k | ₹28–45 L |
| 2 BHK | ₹15k–25k | ₹42–70 L |
| 3 BHK | ₹22k–36k | ₹62 L–1.1 Cr |
Electronic City’s apartment listing rates run ₹5,000–8,500/sq ft — firmest in Phase 1 and around the metro stations, and cheapest out toward Chandapura and Bommasandra. That makes it the most affordable large employment hub in Bangalore, well under Whitefield or the ORR. Indicative trend +8–12%/yr since the metro opened; gross rental yield ~4%, among the best in the city thanks to low entry prices and huge tenant demand.
The Hosur Road corridor is one of Bangalore’s most active value-housing belts, from compact apartments to large townships. Tap any listing for price, floor plans and details.
Our own analysis of Electronic City — prices, projects and the honest caveats, from the team that covers this corridor.
Electronic City’s defining feature is price: it offers metro-linked housing beside a major tech hub at a fraction of the east-side rates. Here is how per-sq-ft rates compare.
| Locality | Rate / sq ft | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Electronic City | ₹5,000–8,500 | benchmark (best value hub) |
| Whitefield | ₹13,000–14,650 | east hub, live metro |
| Sarjapur Road | ₹6,000–13,000 | no on-corridor metro |
| HSR Layout | ₹11,000–18,000 | premium, adjacent north |
| Bommasandra | ~₹5,000 | value, metro terminus |
| Chandapura | ~₹4,500 | cheapest in the belt |
| To (from Electronic City) | Distance | Time (peak) | Best via |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electronic City metro (Yellow) | in belt | 3–10 min | walk / feeder |
| Silk Board | ~12 km | 25–45 min | metro / elevated rd |
| HSR Layout | ~13 km | 30–50 min | Hosur Rd / metro |
| MG Road / CBD | ~19 km | 45–70 min | metro (Yellow) |
| ORR tech parks (Bellandur) | ~17 km | 45–70 min | ORR / Sarjapur Rd |
| Airport (BLR) | ~52 km | 85–120 min | NICE / ORR / Hebbal |
The metro changed everything here: the Yellow Line opened in August 2025 and runs the length of the belt — Hosa Road, Beratena Agrahara, Electronic City, Konappana Agrahara, Hebbagodi and Bommasandra — so a commute that meant an hour on Hosur Road can now be a train ride. Road access is via the elevated Hosur Road expressway and the NICE link, though the surface road and Silk Board remain congested at peak.
Electronic City is an employment destination first and a housing market second. Phase 1 and Phase 2 together host hundreds of companies and several lakh employees, led by the Infosys and Wipro flagship campuses, with Biocon’s biotech operations and the Bommasandra industrial belt adjoining.
Electronic City lives like a self-contained IT township. Weekdays revolve around campus life and the metro; evenings around township clubhouses, the Phase 1 high street, Neo Town retail and local restaurants. It draws a young, largely IT workforce plus families settled in the big gated communities.
Who lives here: Electronic City skews young and IT — engineers and support staff working on the campuses, plus families who bought into the big townships for space and price. It is a practical, work-anchored township rather than a nightlife or heritage neighbourhood, and the metro has made it far more connected to the rest of the city.
Electronic City’s civic picture reflects its township character — well-run gated communities, with water and Hosur Road traffic the watch-outs.
The metro is the headline, and it is already reshaping demand across the belt.
