04 About JP Nagar

From a planned southern layout to a metro-linked hub

JP Nagar was laid out by the BDA from the 1970s onward as a large, planned extension of South Bangalore, organised into numbered phases running south from Jayanagar. Wide roads, parks and the Sarakki and Puttenahalli lakes gave it a settled, green character early on.

Over the decades it filled in as a mature, family-oriented neighbourhood with strong social infrastructure — schools, hospitals, the Central and Gopalan malls, and busy commercial stretches along the phases and the Outer Ring Road that cuts across it.

Connectivity has been its recent story. The Green Line already serves the western phases via the Jayaprakash Nagar and Yelachenahalli stations on Kanakapura Road, and the Pink Line under construction along Bannerghatta Road will add stations at JP Nagar 4th Phase, IIM-B, Hulimavu and Gottigere.
